A View to a Harbour

A Ground-up project

The summer house is located on a steep slope, right above the old port with a magnificent 180 degrees sea view. The approximately 200 sq. m.  house is mainly linear following the mountain slope and was designed in separate volumes to best manage the wind and serve both guests and residents. Each volume opens up to a different terrace providing alternative seating related to wind direction. The main -roughly 5.00m. wide- volume protrudes to divide the building in 2 parts and separating guests form residents. Between the steep mountain slope and the building, an enclosed patio acts as a protected inner “aethrio” (or atrium). Main entrance is through a wind-breaking full-size stone wall and the semi-enclosed space acts like a hug for everyday dinner space. Three separate wooden pergolas follow the building. geometry and connect indoor with outdoor creating the intermediate spaces throughout the building.

The rooftop level was designed as a moonlight vista garden at the same level to the mountain slope and the stone stepped stairs hold the same design strategy as traditional zig-zag Japanese bridges to optimize the views and transform the circulation into a unique narrative.

The building was initially designed in 2023. From 2024 onwards, we undertook the architectural building permit revision together with landscape and interior design. Design followed construction. Its construction completion is scheduled for November 2025.
