Syros summer house
Enjoying the Aegean
The project is about a summer house located 5 min. outside the Syros’ Chora, on a plot with a considerable slope. Therefore the house was carefully placed so as to gain the best possible 180 degree view and have an easy access from the road level at the same time. The idea was to join indoor and outdoor and to expand the living space all arlund the ground floor vele according to the wind direction. We had to spend some time on site to understand how the wind blows and visited surrounding buildings to gain a good insight.
The house is divided in three separate levels. The main living room is downstairs as well as a separate guestroom with its own access and private spaces. A good 8.00 m balcony door with sliding panels opens up to a vast verandah confronting the Aegean and the cascading garden teracces. The building is placed in such a way to create a wind-protected space with a barbeque, dinner table and seating area. The back side blends with the upper levels on a linear wooden pergola that stresses the visual axis to the sea view.
The stairway to the first floor revolves around a central patio-like open space and slots of windows produce a visual connection to the outside. First floor is divided in two and a second verandah plays a a unifying and dividing at the same time role.
The building permit was issued in April 2026 and the project is currently under construction.
